If you had to bet money on it, you’d say he’s definitely out of there at the next election. But, it being Sanchez, you wouldn’t bet much — nobody expected him to be president after the last election either!
Ah ok that makes sense. I believe plasma does HDR out of the box too, amongst other cool things
What’s wrong with Cinnamon? I use it because we share a computer and it was the closest thing to Windows look-wise for non-linuxy family members. Interested to hear what advantages plasma has though!

I use hd-idle for my home server. As mentioned elsewhere, you do have to be careful spinning up/down disks frequently. If you’re using a Linux Mint, that tells me this is a desktop, so you probably shouldn’t do it at all. My server is idle for hours at a time though, so it makes sense in this case. I believe hd-idle defaults to spinning down after ten minutes of idle time.

Shield TV is a very solid choice, can confirm. It’s great for 16bit emulation too

There was a brief golden age when all these services had web APIs so you could plumb them all into Kodi and have a unified experience. But yeah, these days you have to use a browser, watch in 1080, and find a way to make that into a user friendly, remote control experience. Also bear in mind that the streaming provider will change things just to fuck with you.
Alternatively, while Android TV is far from perfect, you do get the official streaming apps in their official form, and you can stream your pirated stuff on the side. I think it makes sense to separate downloading from your tv box anyway. Alternatively, I believe there are pretty good torrent streaming options these days that may be worth looking at.

So the main problem with a Linux TV box these days is that you can’t get a decent experience with legit streaming services thanks to hardware DRM. So the best thing to do really is to have a Linux server (any mini PC will do), and to stream from that to the Android TV box via Jellyfin. I would recommend using Proxmox, as you can have Jellyfin, your downloaders, a nextcloud instance if you like, all in their own containers with a nice web UI to manage them.

The Tangara team are taking a break right now, but it’s a cool project that is worth being aware of

Linux Mint comes closest ime, but it really depends what you want to do. You should ask yourself this question: am I a power user? If the answer is ‘no’, and you just need to do basic media/productivity stuff, you’re going to have a frictionless experience with most popular Linux distros. If the answer is ‘yes, but I don’t want to learn another operating system’ then you should stick with what you know.
I’m 2, and the rest of my family is 1

Tbh even if there was sufficient political will to pivot to China (there is some, and it is growing), people underestimate just how entangled European military structures are with the US via NATO. This is by design of course, and a situation EU atlanticists have historically been very happy with, but pulling out is no small ask.
Pirate because you just want to list all available movies in ascending order of runtime

Wew birds is wimmin, guv’nor

I use stow and it does the job get nicely, but it’s possible that there’s a better option these days

This is such important work o7

I would wait until it’s out on physical or streaming tbh. Sometimes you get lucky and there’s a press or awards release before then, but they’re often annoyingly watermarked. Once it hits streaming you only have to wait as long as it takes for someone to rip it

‘intent’ is a bit of a devious notion in this context though, isn’t it? Whose intent?
We didn’t had internet or ability to fly and sail bunch of tanks across thousands of kilometers within days.
We didn’t have these when the current global power structure was established. We didn’t have AK-47S either, and much of the world had yet to industrialize. It was a very specific context.

A global hegemon on the scale of the British and then US empire is kind of a blip historically though — it’s not obvious that another state will continue in the same role
Nvim all the way
