Police in Virginia say a white nationalist group that marched in Virginia Beach on Memorial Day weekend did not require a permit because the gathering met legal requirements.
“Disparaging whiteness” isn’t the answer. You don’t bring balance by promoting more identity-based hate. Punishing yourself for the actions of other white people only reinforces the idea that white people are substantially different from other races, as if you have more in common with the white supremacists than you do with your black and brown neighbors. It pigeonholes people into racial categories.
Platforming inclusivity, acceptance, and multiculturalism is the only thing that can combat hatred and intolerance. Anything else only exacerbates the issue.
But if you’d rather spend your time and energy on self-flagellation just to be accepted as “one of the good ones,” no one is stopping you. Just don’t be surprised when other white people see that and say “Nope, couldn’t be me.”
Generations of white inbreeding and bizarre religious cultural control have led to this point. I’ve heard all my life about what’s wrong with blacks, Mexicans, Arabs, Jews, etc., but no one was allowed to criticize the whites. I want to make white people stop perpetuating these problems and it starts with looking at what we need to stop doing or being neutral about.
Are you seriously trying to insinuate that white people are all inbred? You might be revealing more about yourself than you realize…
I’ve heard all my life about what’s wrong with blacks, Mexicans, Arabs, Jews, etc., but no one was allowed to criticize the whites.
I don’t know where you grew up, but where I’m from those minorities were all treated as a protected class. Yeah, some people might make jabs at them, but those people were called racists and anti-semites and generally shunned from polite society.
Meanwhile all I hear is “Everything is white people’s fault,” “White people are the oppressors,” “White people are always wrong,” et cetera ad nauseum, and as a white person you’re never allowed to speak up and say “Now wait a minute, I’m not personally responsible for XYZ just because of the skin I was born with! Lot’s of white people aren’t born into the oligarch caste. I’ve always just done the best I can, tried to do my part to make a world a better place, and it might not be much, but certainly I don’t deserve to be burdened with the guilt you’re trying to ascribe to me.” No, any part of that will get you swarmed and labeled a racist, and the more you deny it they more they’ll take that as evidence affirming it.
There’s always a word for everything, no matter what it is, no matter how innocuous or even altruistic your intentions were, there’s always a buzzword that they’ll accuse you of. I could make a comment about the weather and someone nearby might clutch their pearls and call me racist for it.
What the fuck do you mean nobody’s allowed to criticize white people? As a white person myself, I’ve always felt rather than I’m not even allowed to defend myself if someone demands the clothes I’m wearing.
They lean heavily on not mating with outsiders, so you eventually run out of non-relatives in rural communities. My mother’s family had so many cousins marry over time that ancestry thinks my relatives on that side are one degree closer than reality. I have relatives that are blood related to me on their mother’s and father’s sides. Non-white people (including Italians and Eastern Europeans) are not welcome there. I once had a child approach me on a beach and happily brag about his dad gifting him a Mexican killing knife. Because now he’s ready to stab some Mexicans. That kid gets to vote in a few years.
Okay, so you come from an inbred family. That doesn’t mean you can generalize that assumption to literally every white person. Just cause you’re inbred doesn’t mean the rest of us are.
And again, some redneck white trash giving their kids weapons to kill brown people with is deplorable, but not something you can generalize as all white people.
But if most of the people I grew up with also come from racist families, that’s what I expect. Those of us not waiting for the south to rise again are horrified, this is a fucking problem and there’s more of them than there are of us because they like rape and don’t use birth control.
I’ll bring that up next time some white person assumes I’m cool with their Aryan tattoos and stories of race-based violence. Because they assume everyone white is like this.
Damn dude, you really need to find better places to hang out if that’s a regular occurrence for you.
But yes, the correct response in that situation would indeed be to inform them that not everyone who’s white is as depraved as they are, and then proceed to never talk to them again.

That’s called prejudice.
Yes, there are lots of terrible people. Focus your criticism on those instead of assuming every white person is like that.
The issue is white supremacy, not whiteness.
