I agree that it’s ridiculous to use social media comments as evidence. Chinese workers work on average 46 hours a week. This is a fact, and the median is lower as the sectors 996 was found in before the crackdown raised the average, largely in Beijing and Shanghai, and largely in the tech sector.
Hey nerd did you know that every bit of data liberals point to to say “capitalism works and uplifts people from poverty” includes China and if you exclude china suddenly there have been no gains against poverty worldwide for the last, like, 40 years. 996 is illegal, and was restricted mostly to large tech companies. Modern working hours in China are around 44-48 per week, varying year to year.
