The US has been the guarantor of many nations’ security for decades. If they secede from the world, in the insecurity they leave behind, Russia and its friends can hoover up whichever weak states they want.
That is assuming that no-one else (i.e. the EU) steps up and supports those nations which Russia and China have their eyes on.
