  • I remember I was working at my old job, and me and this other dude both worked at GE in the shop together before that. There was this older dude who was a massive dick to everyone, would just bark and complain about stupid shit at everyone all day long. Well since GE closed the plant and everyone got laid off, he applied to work where we both did. It was a pretty small shop too so it’d be even worse. Word got out and we were like ehh yeah it’d suck but I’d hate to get in anyone’s way of securing employment, maybe he has a family. But after a bit I was like man I’d really hate for this dude to fuck up my daily life and ruin this shop, especially since it was basically brand new and I was one of the original hires there.

So I went to my boss and was like hey I heard that this dude applied, you might want to rethink it. And before I could even give reasons why, he was like “just based on his phone interview alone, I’m not going any further with him as an applicant. Seemed like a bad fit”. And this was a dude with a lot of experience in our field. Like how do you fuck up a phone interview hahaha, it’s basically there just to make sure you’re a real human and can come in for one in person.

  • I live in Pittsburgh. They don’t call it the rust belt for no reason. If you go to a junkyard you’ll see tons of perfectly working old Toyotas and Hondas as far as the engine and things go, but they’re all rusted out to the point of not being worth the repairs. This part of the country sucks for owning any car. Tons of potholes, snow, ice, salt, etc. A lot of roads are just fucked in this state. Can’t even avoid the potholes when your whole car’s suspension rumbles down the road the whole time. Highways are a little better but not much. There’s plenty of uneven roads on them too.

Sucks tryin to stick to older cars considering all this. Unless you get something out of state I guess

  • Fwiw, soulseek’s usability is not horrid. I have about 8500 albums, mostly downloaded from there and bandcamp. I also combined libraries with a few friends over the years, which is always fun to just bring over a hard drive and share.

Yes, it’s more work but with things like Plexamp I have all the music I could ever want and it works wonderfully when remote, even does the whole “radio” suggested artists thing within my own library.

Another friend of mine has 38k albums. Sometimes I’ll change the source to his and bop around.

What good is piracy unless you’re amassing a huge server full of all your favorite media

  • There are huge shortages in skilled experienced trades. I’ve seen it all over the US in steel mills. Operators, electricians, welders, etc.

Emphasis on experienced. There’s a fuckton of green apprentices who recently switched careers.

Been doin this work for like 10 years as an electrician so I literally applied to 12 jobs when I finally quit my job of 7 years, got 3 interviews, 2 offers.

Still love my job but I see the labor shortages that can’t be replaced by AI and even automated robotics for production lines

Just look at the multiple fires at the Oswego plant in upstate New York for why the mills are still the wild west sometimes.

  • I used to love aldi but lately every time I go I leave feeling frustrated I couldn’t find what I wanted. Maybe it’s just the locations around me but like core staples of food are just missing. Their canned vegetables section sucks. I needed like Lima beans and stewed tomatoes. Had neither but there’s a whole aisle of useless made for TV level crap appliances and home decorations or whatever.

I get it, I can get a few things to get me through the week there and a lot of the off-brand foods do save you some cash. But I’ve been burned on needing something for a meal and having to run out somewhere else too many times.

  • Soulseek >>>>> piratebay by a wide margin for music.

Only place I’ve found like 90s underground Memphis rap demos and obscure black metal and shit that’s not even on spotify.

I’ve been building my own collection for years. I have around 8k albums.

My friend does the same and is up to 38k albums. I connect to both of our libraries via Plex.

For everything else I use private trackers and torrent. I’ve also built out huge movies, tv, anime libraries with my friends.
