  • Real debrid is currently complying with a legal crackdown and is applying a filter that prevents access to their cached torrents if the title includes a bunch of different common piracy phrases, such as Web, WebDL, the names of common trackers, etc.

Might eventually ease up, might not. Worth it to ride it out for a bit and see what happens if you’re already subbed as some results still play, but for anyone new looking into stremio/kodi/jellyfin you should probably consider something like an easynews + torbox combo

  • I’m not saying I’m a sec expert and impervious to tracking. I don’t need to try multiple sites until one gives me more correct hits, I understand the basics of fingerprinting and how it can be used maliciously. I do more than the average user to safeguard my information.

My point is, real sec professionals attempting to educate and make the general public more knowledgeable about privacy don’t have to rely on scare tactics and vague implications that they live in the matrix and are coming for you to accomplish that. It makes them look like ding-dongs who need to take the trenchcoats and sunglasses off and open the blinds. This thankfully seems to be a common sentiment in this thread.

  • Using a slightly less popular browser with a single privacy addon almost completely circumvented their fingerprinting. Changing the user agent to mask the few pieces of almost useless info it did get, would have totally circumvented their fingerprinting.

I understand the average user would have more correct indicators. The point is, if they’re going to run a service like this, pretending to be hackers and making entirely toothless threats to scare people with info they likely don’t even know how to interpret themselves, shows how incompetent they are and that they don’t actually want to educate. Hence why most legit groups that do education like this choose to present themselves as professionals and adults instead.

  • Laughing my ass off reading through this. The sanctimonious and passive aggressive threatening tone is perfect for how much info it got wrong just because I use Firefox and an adblock. YOUR BROWSER DIDN’T TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, LIKELY BECAUSE ITS FIREFOX. BUT THAT MEANS WE KNOW YOU USE FIREFOX AND WE ARE CHOOSING TO BE SAFE WITH THAT INFO, YOURE WELCOME, PWNED!!!11!1111!1

Teaching people about fingerprinting and how important understanding it is for personal privacy is good, but acting like a 4chan script kiddy group and making bizarre empty threats like you’re mr robot ain’t it, dawg.

From other comments this is likely some AI slop to sell a product, but if they’re serious they come off like they just slept through sec+ and think they’re shadow brokers now lmao

  • I experienced something similar with RD and Kodi last year. I suddenly started getting errors attempting to reach RD on my google TV. Using a VPN, everything worked fine, but without the VPN I’d always get errors. Using a VPN with a debrid service can also be iffy, and I got dinged by RD for the VPN switching IP automatically (despite the VPN I was using supposedly being on their whitelist).

What I determined after some digging and testing was that my ISP started blocking RD traffic in their locked down router settings (one of several ISPs that now do this), and my fix was to finally ditch their garbage router for one that I have control over.

Your situation isn’t identical, and I know little about that brand of streaming box, but it could possibly be an update or setting interfering or the manufacturer intentionally trying to prevent users from using their devices to access “pirate” services. Might be worth trying some searches with your model of thomson and your ISP to see if others are having similar problems with that hardware recently.

  • I have no dog in this fight, but you’ve literally been arguing for three hours that you definitely didn’t mean to get upset at nazis being called out, after clearly getting upset about nazis being called out.

Maybe you should put the phone down and do some self reflection rather than parroting right wing talking points and having a meltdown over something that should be easy to agree with (fuck nazis).

The fact that you sling leftist around like an insult despite it being the most common political identifier in the world makes me think you’ll likely just spew angry word vomit at me to make yourself feel justified that I’m an evil socialist, despite not knowing anything about me 🤷

  • Here’s their statement and stance. Comments are publicly viewable and interactable by everyone on Lemmy, it’s how this discussion is happening. Seems like all of this should be obvious.

I didn’t come to their defense so much as read your bizarre response and felt like responding, which I am free to do on this forum. The fact that I agree with their view on this issue also isn’t that notable, given that its an incredibly common one for anyone with a modicum of ability to understand past and current events in US history, especially on a leftist leaning platform.

  • You’re upset at them because they correctly stated that the US military are not superheroes coming to save us all? There is literal historic precedent of the US military firing on US citizens for lawfully protesting. And besides any of that, have you ever spoken to someone who was enlisted or is in the guard? I closely know one combat vet who is a leftist and one officer who is left of center. They have both straight up told me that the idea of the military stopping any of this or fracturing over Trump is a fantasy. Outside of these two people, every military member I’ve met has been proudly MAGA.

Also, not sure who you think you are that you get to “tolerate” the presence of anyone on an online forum that you aren’t an admin of just because you get upset at reality. Use the block button, debate in good faith, or keep scrolling if you dont agree. You aren’t the cyberpolice or our collective mother, go touch grass.

Aww, someone is grumpy that their weak attempt to make me seem like a violent racist backfired

Go back to reddit if you want to get mountains of upvotes for saying Kirk was a champion of the people. We don’t do fascism here.

I’m not going to presume to know what a black man assassinated by white supremacists would think about his people still being murdered and treated as second class citizens for the color of their skin, and resurgence of racism in America just shy of 60 years after his tragic killing. Though I’d have to think he’d be appalled at how controversial it is to call for a swift end to those perpetrating it.

What I do know is Kirk is quoted saying that black people had unsufficent brain power to hold positions of leadership in society and that the civil rights movement was a mistake.

The fact that you think both of these people and their viewpoints deserve equal defense and respect says a lot more about you than it does me.

Prominent leftist ideology and writers don’t glorify gun ownership or turn them into identity pieces, but they absolutely do see their value for attaining and protecting rights. A lot more leftists own guns than people realize, they just don’t advertise it to threaten and intimidate like fascists do. Many of our rights and freedoms only came about because people were willing to actually fight for them. This is a famous Marx quote: Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.

There’s no putting the cat back in the bag, so we may as well regulate their access and provide education and training for their use before they can be owned, as well as how to effectively avoid their use in the case of defense, and mitigate the damage in the aftermath of their use.

“I’m a staunch ally of Kirk’s abuse victims. I just also happen to believe that Kirk deserved a long safe life without violence so that he could effectively develop the propaganda justifying their genocide!”

At worst, you’re a fascist agitator trying to stir the pot in a leftist space for entertainment. At best, you’re a whiny limp-dick centrist who will throw anyone under the bus to make yourself look like some holier than thou moralist. Either way you’re enabling the regime and I’d mourn your death about as much as I do Kirk’s

Guarantee you don’t spend anywhere near as much effort defending minorities, LGBTQ, or gun violence victims as you do white christo-nationalist terrorism advocates. Wonder why that might be.

Fuck off, you nazi defending piece of human garbage. Charlie Kirk deserved what he got and the only unfortunate parts about his death are how fast and painless it was, and that he isn’t around to see how quickly his nazi wife took his money and ran off to start fucking a dude with a fetish for duvet covers

  • As much as I wish it were the case, this is not even close to the only dem I’ve spoken to who is brainwashed into thinking that anything truly left, like much of the world outside of the US, could never work in reality. Suggesting it means you voted 100% for Trump or Stein, and if you say you didn’t you are lying. You can agree with them on damn near every social policy under the sun and provide metrics from progressive nations on their successes, and they’ll refuse to accept that anyone could possibly be more progressive than them, despite literal mountains of easily verifiable evidence.

I think unfortunately many people are just very politically ignorant and have no desire to even begin to question the US process or try anything different. The US is simply the best at everything. Europe and their crazy whacko ideas may as well be an alien planet and not worth thinking about.

Of course this isn’t all people, some shift is happening (as long as its not called socialism, generally), but in my personal experience leftist ideas pretty much get you locked out of any discussion. I typically get smug “Oh its so cute you’re in your socialist phase, you’ll grow out of it and understand politics like me” treatment.

  • I had a lib tell me the other day that democratic socialists are actually a secret SpecOp branch of the Tea Party tasked with infiltrating the dem party and undermining the efforts of patriots like Jeffries and Schumer, and that it is a blatant lie and MAGA propaganda that countries left of US dems exist and are functional. Europe has apparently been a warzone since WWII because they’re taken over by socialist terror organizations. I was then blocked for linking to the Wikipedia article for Democratic Socialism.

I think breaking the blue tribe propaganda is going to be one hell of an uphill battle, unfortunately. A lot of dems align on policies with leftists, at least socially, but once you use the trigger words, their programming activates and freak the fuck out and call you a MAGA plant despite all evidence to the contrary.

  • Because of people like you ripping the reins back and saying people ready to stop this madness are wrong, we do not have the unity needed to start effective resistance conflict. We can’t fight how we need to, because too many of you exist who are ready to throw us to the wolves if we try.

You are deluding yourself thinking that fascists understand anything but violence, that they will have empathy or pity for you if you act helpless enough for long enough. Meanwhile, people like the man in this article have real, tangible suffering that is all too easy for you to ignore, because you have never experienced it yourself
