  • It doesn’t matter how good is internet connection nowadays, the source in the server is still encoded losing some quality.

Tried to watch Batman Begins in HBO Max, despite being offered as 4K UHD, the loss of information was noticeable on my OLED tv, specially the blacks (as you know, there is almost no black colour in Batman /s).

A friend of mine lend me his Nolan’s Batman trilogy on BR 4K UHD and it was like night and day.

Since the lbs I’m buying physical for movies that I like the most and want to watch them in the highest quality possible.

  • Where I live there are two official languages, the one from the country, Spanish, and the one from the region, Valencian, so you have places and streets named in one and translated into the other and both are valid. Some important places have only one official name in Valencian.

Well there is a huge historical railroad station called Estación del Norte (North Station) that people called it by translating it into Valencian, and now the official name is Estació del Nord.

The thing is that the station was never located on the north of anything in the city, it is called Norte because that’s how it was called the company that built it.

Making the translation official not only increases the confusion about its location for people who doesn’t know the city, but it also hides its history, I know a lot of people living here that don’t know where the name came from and who build it.

I don’t have issues with making official naming in Valencian as long it does not change the name of a person or company.

  • Where I live the water is very hard, poor quality (but inside of the allowed limits), and also the pipes in my flat’s building are fucking old, so yes, I only drink from bottled or filtered water.

It might not pose a real risk, but I prefer err on the safe side. Additionally the Brita filter removes the nasty taste that the tap water has here and the kettle doesn’t have lime stains.

  • An ice tray to cold down a router.

I changed ISP, the new one told me that it would take like a week to send me the credentials to use my own ADSL router 🙄, in the meantime I had to use the cheap-ass one they provided.

The new service crashed like after five minutes of use, after some some back and force with the technical support unsuccessfully I notice that the router was extremely hot when the connection crashed and normal when it started to work again.

It has not any cooling system, and being in the middle of the summer didn’t help either.

So…. I tried to put an ice tray from the freezer on the router and it worked. To be “safe” I put a plastic bag between them to avoid any condensation dripping onto the device.

  • I’m not sure if it counts as an AD but seems like an AD, many many moons ago (I think when Apple TV+ was introduced), they changed the “home screen” with the apps in your Apple TV to an Apple TV+ one with their content (and some linked from other platforms).

The apps view still exists but now the “home” button gets you to the Apple TV+ one unless you click it again from there (unless you accidentally scrolled a bit and the button) or double click it to open the menu with the recently opened apps.
