does VoLTE work? Basically all carriers in the us use this and we knocked down all of the old tech towers. My understanding is the EU still has all the old towers up for just voice calls and don’t need VoLTE to work.
Quick web search suggests it is a “beta” feature at best currently :(
I’m kinda getting sick of these “news headlines” that keep soft-balling obviously true statements like 5 years too late.
Having watched the video of him shooting a gun, this still makes no sense. My brain cannot wrap itself around how any of this works. I’m looking for cracks, any indication this is just some AI-fuel mass hallucination fever-dream, but I can’t find it and that is somehow worse.
Won’t be surprised if the ISP provided hardware is going to be the only allowed stuff. For you and me, not for the gov’t or companies though. They specifically only mentioned “consumer grade” and also specifically state that products sold to or used by the federal gov’t are not restricted at all. Seems like that carve-out is backwards if these things are such big “security risks”…
This or one of the other “Arch but easier” distros like CachyOS or Garuda Linux. I’ve been running Garuda happily for about 4 years now, and recently put CachyOS on my laptop to play with it and so far it’s been great too.

Nope - it is extremely risky/costly. Facebook is actively pushing for these laws to push the “blame” onto the OS to get out of a potential $50 Billion worth of fines due to COPPA violations for collecting data on kids. Facebook wants the OS to do all of the actual collecting of data while being required to share that data with Facebook - they get all of the benefit of stealing your data without any of the liability (or work). That’s the entire point of these laws.

I think the issue there is the data doesn’t tell anyone “why”, it only tells “what”.

Ok for those of you that haven’t figured it out I got my wings clipped and they weren’t gentle about it- so there’s not going to be much posting on social media anymore and only on very specific subjects. I can leave but Kaidi can’t so we’re just going to follow the new rules and that’s that. Nothing personal if I don’t like and reply like I used to. While I hope that is true, the only thing we know is she hasn’t been active online since July 2023, and that was a text post to Twitter. It’s terrifying to think that we will never really know if she is safe or not. I recall several people in the 3d printing space that had previously regularly spoken to her that also mentioned she went radio silent in private as well.

I wrote one of my representatives once to tell him I disagreed with his stance on some tech-related bill or another several years ago, and urged him to reconsider. I got a canned response from his office thanking me for “my support” and basically “agreeing” with me that the rep’s original stance is correct and good and just, with a little sprinkle of obviously not understanding the bill at all dusted throughout. He is still my representative like 12 years later. I still get his newsletter in my e-mail regularly because his “unsubscribe” link doesn’t work (never mind that I never subscribed to a newsletter, I e-mailed my representative…).

Right… Most of us fly every day. That’s a daily occurrence for sure. It isn’t seeing them at diners or patrolling neighborhoods that affects our “daily lives”, it’s the airports. The place that has been a totalitarian dystopia where we all know we have no freedoms or rights and haven’t for 25 years.
