The move deals an embarrassing blow to the Trump administration, which made the Maryland man, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the face of its deportation campaign.
The case outlasted the AG and DHS heads who fabricated it, so yes, time to dismiss it.
Todd Blanche played a key role, and the defense tried to get him to testify to establish vindictiveness. And he’s still around.
In the end, though, DOJ turtled up, which meant they didn’t do much to rebut the presumption of vindictiveness. So, case dismissed for vindictive prosecution.
I should add, now that Abrego actually has a court ruling finding vindictive prosecution, he should be eligible to collect from the $1.776 billion compensation fund.
God, it’s so hilarious how Trump set up the fund to benefit himself and his inbred army but didn’t bind it tight enough to exclude those who’ve been harmed by his own government.
I haven’t read much about it, but isn’t it something you apply to? And then they’ll just deny people for arbitrary reasons or give insignificant sums.
I don’t expect any such individual to actually get a payout. Just folks who beat up cops.
I’ll be surprised if any of them get more than a pittance. I expect most of it will go to the grifters and influencers.
So, does he qualify for any of the $1.776B slush fund for people who fell victim to a politically weaponized DoJ? He seems like the perfect candidate.
It’s about time!
Good. For fuck sake, leave this man alone!
