Immigration officials said agent shot two ‘vicious gang members’ in Portland, but records obtained by the Guardian reveal US prosecutor contradicted claims
Immediately after a US border patrol agent shot two people in Oregon last month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the targets were “vicious” gang members connected to a prior shooting and alleged they had “attempted to run over” officers with their vehicle.
In the weeks since, key parts of the federal government’s narrative have fallen apart.
The events took place on the afternoon of 8 January, one day after a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
They claimed both were gang members. Their logic was as follows:
- The lady was involved in an assault, clear evidence that she is a criminal.
- If you are simultaneously Venezuelan and a criminal, you are automatically a member of a specific gang.
- The guy is involved (romantically) with the lady, extending her criminality and gang membership to him.
Not only is this batshit to begin with, she was the victim of the assault that is the root of the logic chain.
They are trying even less than normal law enforcement to make a believable story. The courts have long pretended to believe the police and prosecutors and their expert witnesses knowing full well they are lying, and only not pretending when a high powered lawyer was involved. Which begs the question of what exactly these lawyers are doing to get these cynical judges to extend the shield of american law to the accused and not just the sword.
But with cbp, ice, the system is so corrupted, their bosses so contemptuous of the courts that buck their federalist society hacks rendering loyalty to the party, they don’t try to make anything believable, knowing they have enough of the population pretending to believe them, or even trusting their version of events, to get away with murder. With summary executions justified by false pretexts, character assassinations.

- The lady involved had been a victim of sexual assault and robbery.
And that is the best that they could come up with.
